SAN RAFAEL, Calif., May 31, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Vin Antico restaurant, 881 Fourth St. in San Rafael, officially re-opens on Friday, May 31, 2013, under new ownership. The restaurant will be overseen by General Manager Naomi Finerman, and Megan Smith has been brought in as Executive Chef. The menu incorporates the theme "where passion meets the plate," showcasing the bounty of local farmers by bringing to the table dishes made up of local, organic, sustainable ingredients. The Wine Bar offers local and sustainable beer & wine, featuring the offerings of local vintners such as Pey Marin, Canihan Family Cellars, Sean Thackrey, Anthill Farms and B.Kosuge.
Soft openings were held at the restaurant on Tuesday, May 28 and Thursday May 30 for invited guests. Cost was $50 per person and a portion of the proceeds were donated to Canal Alliance, whose mission is to help low-income Spanish-speaking immigrants acquire the tools they need to thrive.
Executive Chef Megan Smith, whose career spans twenty-five years, including her stint as Executive Chef at FISH restaurant in Sausalito, said, "Working in the Bay Area is a dream come true. What drives me is that intimate connection that food creates with people – few interactions come close to that feeling."
Owner and Marin County native Mike Heffernan remarked, "In addition to being half-Italian, I'm a local and have always wanted to be part of a thriving neighborhood restaurant where people gather together to enjoy great local, organic food and wine. That's the vision we have for Vin Antico."
