The five-year initiative will train nearly one million health workers and deliver climate-responsive nutrition to millions of the most nutritionally vulnerable populations, women and children.
NEW YORK, Sept. 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Vitamin Angels today launched a new five-year initiative to build more climate-resilient health systems and improve maternal and child nutrition across Indonesia. Funded by Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited ("Takeda"), the Climate-Inspired Nutrition Through Action ("CINTA") program — Cinta means "love" in Bahasa, Indonesia's national language — was announced on September 23 during a United Nations General Assembly side event in New York City.
"Women and children should not pay the price of climate change with their health," said Dr. Ana Céspedes, CEO of Vitamin Angels. "Together with Takeda, we are determined to change that — by empowering health workers, building stronger health systems, and ensuring millions of mothers, infants, and children in Indonesia have access to the proven nutrition solutions they need to thrive, today and for generations to come."
Climate change is an escalating threat to global public health and nutrition, disproportionately affecting pregnant women, infants, and young children. In Indonesia, where more than 30% of children under five are stunted and nearly one-third of women of reproductive age are anemic, climate shocks exacerbate already critical nutrition challenges. The country ranks 46 out of 163 on UNICEF's Children's Climate Risk Index, meaning millions of children are highly vulnerable to climate-related health risks, extreme weather, and environmental stresses.
"Climate change is one of the greatest health challenges facing vulnerable communities today," said Toshie Ando, Head of Global CSR & Partnership Strategy, Global Corporate Affairs at Takeda. "Through our Global CSR Program, Takeda is committed to investing in long-term, climate-resilient solutions that strengthen health systems for the future. We're proud to partner with Vitamin Angels to create lasting improvements to maternal and child health in Indonesia, helping women and children thrive for generations to come."
In partnership with Takeda, Vitamin Angels will deliver an integrated package of proven nutrition solutions to millions of pregnant women, infants, and young children in Indonesia, including multiple micronutrient supplementation, vitamin A supplementation, deworming treatment, support for breastfeeding, and nutrition education. The CINTA program will also train nearly one million health workers to address climate-related health risks and strengthen supply chains to support sustainable and more resilient local production of vital nutrition supplies.
"Thanks to Takeda's support, we'll be able to expand our impact across Indonesia by working closely with our partners network and leveraging our technical capacity to ensure that nutrition services are delivered effectively to people in climate-stressed communities," said Otte Santika, Director of Programs, Indonesia, at Vitamin Angels. "In collaboration with the Government of Indonesia, we will support the development of climate-resilient national health policies addressing nutrition challenges and strengthening the health system to sustainably serve women and children."
