The Volunteer Center of North Texas helps meet the needs of more than 2,500 nonprofit organizations by recruiting, matching and pre-screening volunteers. Under Thomas' leadership, VCNT has launched many successful entrepreneurial initiatives to address the community's volunteer needs.
"We deeply appreciate Julie's leadership of the Volunteer Center throughout the past 26 years," said VCNT Board Chairman Cheryl Alston. "She has done great work for the North Texas nonprofit community and for volunteerism nationwide."
Programs spearheaded by Thomas include a partnership with local courts to have offenders complete community service hours; the Corporate Social Responsibility program to partner with companies to donate gently used office furniture, equipment and surplus inventory; and the VeriFYI program that has provided more than 1 million background checks on volunteers for schools, hospitals and other organizations in Dallas, Tarrant and Collin counties.
"My philosophy over the past quarter century is that though we are volunteer-focused, we succeed by using a business model to run the organization," Thomas said. "I am proud of our work to meet the volunteerism needs of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and I look forward to helping the transition of a new leader who will bring vision, passion and commitment to move the organization forward."
The VCNT board will conduct a nationwide search to fill the position.
