Volunteers Make a Difference in the Mountains of Western Maryland
Traveling 800 Miles With 20 Tons of Stone to Help Build a Respite House for Military Families With Critically Ill Children
BALTIMORE, Oct. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Master stonemasons from Wisconsin are traveling 800 miles with a group of military support volunteers to a special construction site in the mountains of Western Maryland, to help complete a respite home for military families with critically ill children. Approximately 10 talented volunteers are donating their time, skills, labor and materials on site at the Believe In Tomorrow House at Deep Creek Lake.
Why: In an effort to give back to the men, women, and families who honor us with their dedication and service to our country, the Believe In Tomorrow Children's Foundation is on a mission to complete the Believe In Tomorrow House at Deep Creek Lake. This location is the Foundations eighth facility that prioritizes military families with critically ill children. The House at Deep Creek Lake will provide a mountain-top retreat for military families who have been fractured by a child's life-threatening illness. Military families who have critically ill children face multiple challenges during their child's treatment process. Treatment at military hospitals frequently means that families are far from home, without the support of extended family members. When a military family visits the new respite property, they can rest, relax and renew their spirits as a family, free of charge while enjoying the areas scenic vistas, hiking trails, fishing, swimming, and snow skiing.
Who: Jason and Joe Buechel and craftsmen from Natural Stone Veneers International of Fond du Lac Wisconsin, will drive almost 800 miles hauling 20 tons of stone before they even begin to work on the interior and exterior of the house. This is the second Believe In Tomorrow respite facility they have helped to build. In 2009, Jason and Natural Stone Veneers helped to build the Believe In Tomorrow House at Pinnacle Falls in North Carolina, which also serves military pediatric families.
The Believe In Tomorrow Children's Foundation is a leading nonprofit provider of pediatric respite and hospital services to children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. Since its founding in 1982, Believe In Tomorrow has provided over 800,000 overnight accommodations to children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. Brian Morrison, the Founder and CEO of Believe In Tomorrow will be on site throughout this volunteer effort.
When: Volunteers will arrive at the site on Sunday evening October the 22nd and depart for Wisconsin on Thursday morning October the 26th.
