Vonage Granted Seven New Patents in First Quarter 2015

HOLMDEL, N.J., March 31, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Vonage Holdings Corp. (NYSE: VG), a leading provider of cloud communications services for consumers and businesses, today announced it was granted seven new patents in the first quarter of 2015 by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The Company now owns 75 U.S. patents, with more than 250 U.S. patent applications pending, along with numerous foreign patents and pending applications in jurisdictions worldwide.

Mobility Solutions for Business Patents

U.S. Pat. No. 8,989,759, "Method and Apparatus for Proximity Based Call Termination," covers a system that determines when a mobile device has entered a specified location such as an office and, as a result, redirects incoming calls to another device at the specified location, such as a desk phone.

U.S. Pat. No. 8,989,359, "Methods and Systems for Dynamically Changing Contact Information," provides a method for updating contact lists of users in a communications network.  When a change is made to a contact's information (such as an updated phone number) by one user, mutual contacts are also notified of the change.  By proactively identifying and notifying other users of the contact change, the patented system significantly reduces frustration caused by stale contact information.

Mobile VoIP Application Notification and Provisioning Patents

U.S. Pat. No. 8,996,069, "Systems and Methods for Communication Notification and Handling," enables a mobile telephony app to receive and process push notifications indicating missed calls, unread messages or new contacts.

U.S. Pat. No. 8,965,342, "Method and Apparatus for Verifying the Authenticity of Mobile Device Information," allows an app provider to seamlessly verify that a telephone number provided by the mobile app user is actually associated with the mobile device. This allows users of the app to use their native telephone number with the app while ensuring that they are authorized to do so.

International Roaming Patents

U.S. Pat. Nos. 8,989,721, 8,958,785, and 8,934,882, each entitled "Systems and Methods for Terminating Telephony Communications to Mobile Telephony Devices," relate to various aspects of technology that prompts a customer's mobile carrier to activate a call forwarding feature enabling low-cost incoming calls on mobile phones when traveling internationally.
