Voter Registration for Southern Sudan January Referendum Gains Momentum in United States

WASHINGTON, Nov. 23, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- On Sunday, November 21, 2010, the Southern Sudan Referendum Commission (SSRC) announced the opening of five additional voter registration centers in Dallas, Chicago, Boston, Seattle and Nashville in the upcoming weeks to allow more Southern Sudanese in the United States the chance to register to vote for the Southern Sudan Referendum (SSR), scheduled for January 9-15, 2011.

Southern Sudanese voter registration for the (SSR) Southern Sudan Referendum will give Southern Sudanese people around the world the choice to confirm the unity of Sudan, or vote for the secession of Southern Sudan.

The United States SSRC representative, Mr. Beniah Duku is encouraging eligible voters to participate in this historic process. "It's an opportunity of a lifetime," he says "Now, with the opening of five new centers, Southern Sudanese across all of America will have an even greater ability to choose their future." He further adds, "This is a unique situation for Southern Sudanese, one not to be missed."

Currently, voter registration centers are open in Alexandria, VA (216 Peyton Street), Glendale, Arizona (St. James Roman Catholic Parish, 19640 N. 35th Avenue) and Omaha, Nebraska (St. Richard's Rectory, 4320 Fort Street) from 9:00am to 6:00pm, Monday to Saturday; 12:00pm to 5:00pm Sundays and 9:00am to 1:00pm on Thanksgiving Day. Registration at these three centers is ongoing and has been extended to December  2, 2010. Details of addresses and registration dates for the five new centers will be announced shortly.
