VSI Adds Polypropylene Siding to Certification Program
WASHINGTON, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- After more than a decade of successfully certifying vinyl siding through the VSI Product Certification Program, the Vinyl Siding Institute, Inc. (VSI) is pleased to announce certification for qualified polypropylene siding to the industry performance standard.
"As the only third-party certification program for polymeric siding in the United States and Canada, the VSI Product Certification Program allows manufacturers to independently verify that their products meet or exceed the industry standard for performance," said VSI President and Chief Executive Officer Jery Y. Huntley. "Polypropylene siding already offers durability and curb appeal, but with the added assurance of certification, builders and homeowners can have confidence in the product's performance."
Through VSI's Program, polypropylene siding manufacturers can certify that their products meet or exceed the ASTM D7254 Standard Specification for Polypropylene (PP) Siding, as verified by an independent quality control agency, Architectural Testing, Inc. (ATI). ATI conducts a series of rigorous tests, unannounced inspections of polypropylene siding plants, and quality control plan reviews to ensure polypropylene siding certified through VSI's Program will:
- Weather the elements over time without cracking, chipping, flaking, pitting, or peeling.
- Meet impact resistance requirements.
- Withstand wind pressures equivalent to 110 mph or more.
- Demonstrate flame spread performance equivalent to or better than wood materials commonly used in building construction.

VSI is located in Washington, DC, and represents manufacturers of vinyl siding, polypropylene siding, and other polymeric siding, and suppliers to the industry. VSI sponsors the VSI Product Certification Program and the VSI Certified Installer Program.
