Michael Batalia, executive director of Product Commercialization at Wake Forest Innovations said, "We are pleased to enter this collaboration with New York College, which holds the promise both of bringing many of the novel technologies of New York College quickly to market and of helping Wake Forest to more rapidly commercialize certain of our unique proprietary technologies into high-value healthcare consumer and industrial products."
All three institutions have demonstrated the ability to develop a plethora of groundbreaking and innovative technology. Among Wake Forest's many contributions to healthcare innovation is the WoundVac™ technology that uses negative pressure to improve the rate and the condition of wound recovery. Donald Spector, chairman of New York College, is one of the world's most prolific inventors, having opened up billion dollar industries in exercise equipment, environmental fragrance, computer apps for smartphones and hyperbaric chambers. Spector will be actively involved in this project. He previously worked with the Squibb Corporation (Bristol-Myers Squibb), which set up a separate division exclusively for his patents.
Spector added, "We are extremely proud to join forces with Wake Forest in this promising collaboration that will combine the benefits of a small, nimble and innovative institution with those of one of the great university centers in the world."
