WCA also activated a CNG fueling station at its residential hauling facility on Highway 6 South in west Houston, at which its CNG fleet will be refueled.

WCA plans to expand its CNG fleet in the Houston market over the next few years. WCA will be converting the majority of its garbage trucks in central Florida to CNG later this year and rolling out its CNG initiative in most of its other markets in the coming years.

"This facility will serve as the basis of our growing CNG fleet. CNG is the best transportation fuel for tethered fleets.  Not only is it a far cleaner fuel than diesel, it's down every street and up every alley.  The sheer prevalence of natural gas makes it the best domestic resource that can power our current and future transportation needs and greatly reduces our national dependency on oil imports," said Robert Mecchi, vice president of procurement and fleet for WCA.

Natural gas vehicles show an average reduction in ozone-forming emissions of 80 percent compared to gasoline vehicles. The CNG trucks are also quieter, nearly half as loud as diesel trucks to the human ear.

WCA embraces new opportunities and methods to progress its sustainability efforts. The company is proud to announce the activation of this CNG station as its next step in improving the environment.
