Webmedx Recognizes First Customer Hospitals in Nation to Implement Integrated Front-End Speech Recognition in Acute Care Settings
Company to Announce The Freedom of Speech Founders Award at AHIMA National Convention and Exhibit
ATLANTA, July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Webmedx, the third largest medical transcription service provider in the U.S. and a premier supplier of speech recognition and quality analytics technology, today announced The Freedom of Speech Founder's Award program denoting the first hospitals in the nation to successfully implement front-end speech recognition in the acute care environment within a single workflow. The company will present the award during the AHIMA National Convention and Exhibit at the Webmedx Booth #2125 at the Gaylord Palms Hotel and Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.
Currently in use at several Webmedx customer sites, the ability for physicians to capture documentation using front-end voice recognition and then self-edit their work reduces costs by 60% for every transcribed report. "Every document created using front-end speech recognition saves the organization money while also keeping physicians in total control of their workflow," mentions Chris Cashwell, Vice President, Webmedx. Furthermore, discrete data is codified and mined from speech-generated reports for upload into electronic health records (EHRs) to support meaningful use and core measures quality reporting requirements.
"Speech technology keeps what is familiar to doctors, dictating," states John Umekubo, MD, Chief Information, St. Mary's Medical Center in San Francisco and a Webmedx Customer. "We have the capability to do our documentation on the computer, but that requires typing and many are not very good at it... but we are very good at dictating," Umekubo concludes.
According to the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI), there are nearly 1.2 billion clinical records produced in the U.S. every year and 60% are documented via traditional dictation and transcription. "Even in HIMSS Stage 6 Hospitals, our research shows that 62% of physician reports are created using dictation and transcription," mentions Cashwell. Webmedx gives physicians flexible choices for data capture and completely integrates these options into EHR workflow, a win-win for physicians and CIOs.
In addition to front-end speech recognition and self-editing, the Webmedx platform, Enterprise5, gives physicians the choice to send reports to an editor at any time using back-end speech recognition or simply dictate the report for a transcriptionist to complete. All three options are available to physicians within a single workflow and physician speech profile with no licensing fees.
