Webmedx Replaces Legacy Medical Dictation and Transcription Technology at St. Joseph Medical Center
Company Implements New System in Three Days, Physicians Back Online in Record Time
ATLANTA and NASHVILLE, Tenn., March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Webmedx, the fourth largest medical transcription service provider in the U.S. and premier supplier of clinical documentation technology, today announced that St. Joseph Medical Center (SJMC) in Houston, Texas has implemented Webmedx's leading medical dictation and transcription technology platform throughout the 792-bed facility. Within three days of the legacy system crashing, Webmedx had St. Joseph's nearly 600 physicians back online and dictating reports with minimal disruption and no learning curve. The announcement was made by Sean Carroll, CEO, Webmedx.
Webmedx received the Best in KLAS Award for Outsourced Transcription in the 2009 Top 20 Best in KLAS Awards: Software & Professionals Services report. The company's new, web-native system easily accommodates SJMC's clinical documentation needs and will continue to support their future growth. "The conversion and implementation was so smooth that our physicians didn't even realize we had installed a completely new system," mentions Lana Smart, RHIA, Director of Health Information Management and Privacy Officer, SJMC.
St. Joseph's legacy dictation and transcription system was already past its useful life when their documentation disaster struck on December 14, 2009. Replacing the system with new technology from Webmedx was a fast-moving effort for all involved. While Smart focused on implementing a back-up solution, Webmedx worked diligently with Jason Welch, IT Project Manager, SJMC, to manually enter data into the new system and completely mirror the prior dictation system's user interface. Physicians were able to dictate using the new system immediately with no additional training or intervention. Additionally, the organization's internal medical transcriptionists (MTs) were quickly online and have been working with Webmedx's U.S.-based team of clinical documentation experts to transcribe backlogged reports.
"During the transition, it felt like we were Webmedx's only customer," adds Smart. "And it still feels that way today." "SJMC chose Webmedx based on our long-standing reputation for responsive, quality customer service and the comfort of knowing a U.S.-based team of IT experts and medical transcriptionists were available throughout their crisis and for the years to come," mentions Chris Cashwell, Senior Vice President of Client Development, Webmedx. "Having U.S. – based customer support was a real advantage during our conversion and implementation; domestic support really does make a difference," concludes Smart.
