Wegmans' New Virginia Beach Store Opens at 7 a.m. on Sunday, April 28

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., April 23, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Store Manager Mike Coyle hopes to make Hampton Roads-area residents fall in love with their new Wegmans Food Market from the moment the doors open at 7 a.m. on Sunday, April 28. His aim in Virginia Beach is to see that the store's 500 employees deliver incredible customer service right from the start.

Following opening day, the 113,000 square-foot store at 4721 Virginia Beach Blvd. will be open daily from 6 a.m. to midnight. It offers over 60,000 products, including more than 4,000 organic items, hundreds of imported and domestic cheeses, wine and beer, a fast-casual restaurant called The Burger Bar, a Market Café with indoor and outdoor seating for more than 300, and a smorgasbord of chef-prepared restaurant foods from Executive Chef Tom Schwarzweller and his culinary staff of 127.

Coyle formerly oversaw seafood merchandising for Wegmans' Virginia stores, and says no one will offer a more fresh, vibrant, and appealing seafood department than Wegmans Virginia Beach.

"Seafood is an area where our quality really sets us apart," he says. "Fresh, whole fish are delivered daily and cut to order. When in season, fish will come from local waters off the mid-Atlantic coast and the Chesapeake Bay. We can't wait to show it all off on opening day."

Virginia Beach is Wegmans' 99^th store overall and the 12^th in Virginia. It's the first of three Wegmans store openings this year; the others are in Raleigh, North Carolina and Brooklyn, New York.

A few minutes before 7 a.m. on opening day, store employees will gather in the entryway of the new store to do the Wegmans cheer, a long-standing tradition that precedes each opening.
