WellCare of Florida Names Dr. Keith Wilson Medical Director

"Dr. Wilson's extensive clinical and managed care experience will significantly contribute to our efforts to help our members get and stay healthy," said Dr. Alan Smith, WellCare of Florida's senior medical director. "Dr. Wilson will partner with physicians in our network to assist our members in managing chronic disease; to engage with members who aren't getting an annual checkup or recommended preventive screenings; and to ensure all of our members have access to the right care in an appropriate setting."

Prior to joining WellCare, Dr. Wilson served as medical director for WellPoint, where he oversaw utilization management and care issues in Connecticut, New Hampshire and Maine. His diverse and extensive healthcare experience also includes: the University of Colorado, Denver, where he taught clinical outcomes management; United Healthcare/PacifiCare of Oklahoma, where he was medical director; Springer Clinic Inc. in Oklahoma, where he was medical director; and Inpatient Medical Services in Texas, where he was chief medical officer.

Dr. Wilson is board-certified in pulmonary and internal medicine. He received his bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of North Texas; his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine; and a master's in health services administration from the University of Colorado Executive Program.

As of March 31, 2016, WellCare serves approximately 772,000 Medicaid members, 57,000 Florida Healthy Kids members, 92,000 Medicare Advantage members, and 31,000 Medicare Prescription Drug Plan members in Florida.
