Wellington Equestrian Preservation Alliance Congratulates New Winners of Election
VOTE POINTS TO STRONG INTEREST IN PROTECTING EQUESTRIAN PRESERVE
WELLINGTON, Fla., March 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Wellington Equestrian Preservation Alliance, a group of residents focused on preserving Wellington's equestrian and rural character, issued a statement regarding the new outcome of the recent election. The election results were positive for the Alliance as all three of the candidates who were endorsed by the Alliance were declared winners. The Alliance is urging local and state officials to accept the voters' wishes and ensure that the rightful candidates are seated in a timely way.
"First and foremost, congratulations to Mayor Bob Margolis and Councilmen Matt Willhite and John Greene," said Mat Forrest, Executive Director for the Wellington Equestrian Preservation Alliance. "We look forward to these candidates being sworn in and taking their place in the next few days. More importantly, we commend the residents of Wellington who have had the last and loudest word. They are to be commended. In record numbers they got involved in their community, and we should listen to what they said."
The Wellington Equestrian Preservation Alliance has been a vocal supporter of equestrian activities and conservation in the Wellington Equestrian Preserve. The Alliance has also been a vocal critic of the proposed large-scale development that would be unprecedented within the Preserve area and counter to the master plan, which has specific rules and regulations about acceptable use within the Preserve. Post-voting polling showed that this issue was a decisive one – with a majority of the voters siding with a more controlled growth agenda.
"I think the residents of Wellington heard the arguments on all the issues," Forrest added. "On Election Day, over five thousand people voted and the majority in all three races voted to preserve what makes Wellington unique. In the end, all that matters is that the residents of Wellington took the time to get involved and have spoken with their vote. All we need to do now is start listening and install the candidates they elected."
The Wellington Equestrian Alliance will be closely monitoring the installation of the newly elected officials and the process as it moves forward in the coming weeks.
