Travis Powell returns to the International Theater for a tribute inspired by "Elvis: That's the Way It Is," on the very stage where its concert footage was filmed
LAS VEGAS, Oct. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- In 1970, movie cameras captured Elvis Presley commanding the stage at the International Hotel, preserving a defining chapter of his Las Vegas career. On Saturday, October 24, 2026, Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino will bring the spirit of those performances back to the same stage with 1970 LIVE! – That's the Way It Was, starring acclaimed Elvis Tribute Artist Travis Powell inside the legendary International Theater.
Inspired by the documentary Elvis: That's the Way It Is, the concert continues Westgate's series celebrating The King's most memorable performances. For fans who have watched Elvis light up the screen, the concert offers an opportunity to experience a live tribute to that extraordinary era in the room where it happened.
Released in 1970 and directed by Denis Sanders, Elvis: That's the Way It Is followed Presley from rehearsals to the stage during his summer engagement at the International Hotel, now Westgate Las Vegas. Combining behind-the-scenes moments with live performances, the film captured his musical range, playful personality and connection with audiences.
That blend of intimacy and showmanship provides the inspiration for 1970 LIVE! – That's the Way It Was, revisiting an era when Elvis moved effortlessly from driving rock 'n' roll to sweeping ballads. With a nine piece band and nine background singers providing the famous harmonies, the show will feature favorites including "Suspicious Minds," "Lost That Lovin' Feelin'," "Love Me Tender," "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "Heartbreak Hotel."
"Elvis is part of the heart and history of Westgate, and every time his fans gather in the International Theater, you feel how powerful that connection remains," said Dawn Rawle, Senior Vice President of Marketing & Entertainment at Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino. "This show has a particularly special connection to our property. The performances that audiences have watched and loved in this documentary happened right here, and we're excited to welcome Travis back to celebrate that chapter of Elvis' story."
"The documentary gives you such a vivid sense of Elvis as a performer—the intensity, the humor and the relationship he had with the people in the room," said Jackie Miranda, Founder/Director of DDM Productions "That feeling is at the heart of this production. We want longtime fans to reconnect with what they love about those performances and new fans to understand why they still resonate."
For Powell, returning to the International Theater adds a personal dimension to the tribute. "When I watch That's the Way It Is, I'm struck by how much Elvis gives to every song and how naturally he connects with the audience," said Travis Powell. "Performing this music on the same stage carries a responsibility that means a great deal to me. I want to honor the heart he put into those performances and share that feeling with everyone in the theater."
