OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Sept. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) recently announced that Western Governors University (WGU) is a candidate for ACBSP accreditation for its business degree programs. This program-specific accreditation is in addition to the university's regional accreditation from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, which was reaffirmed earlier this year.
As a candidate for ACBSP accreditation, WGU will be assigned a mentor who will guide the university through the accreditation process, and the university will submit a self-study of its current business programs. Peer evaluators will then follow up with a site visit, and the ACBSP Baccalaureate/Graduate Degree Board of Commission will grant final approval of accreditation.
"We are delighted to have Western Governors University as a candidate for ACBSP accreditation," said Dr. Steve Parscale, Chief Accreditation Officer for ACBSP. "The fact that WGU is pursuing ACBSP accreditation shows its commitment to providing the highest quality business education for its students."
Established in 1988, ACBSP is the only organization offering specialized business accreditation for all degree levels, from associate to baccalaureate to doctoral degree programs. ACBSP accreditation certifies that the teaching and learning processes within the business programs offered through WGU's College of Business meet the rigorous educational standards established by ACBSP.
"Candidacy for ACBSP accreditation is an important milestone for WGU and demonstrates our commitment to delivering a world-class standard of business education," said Dr. Rashmi Prasad, Academic Vice President, WGU College of Business.
