WGU to Award $100,000 in Scholarships for Business Programs
Online, competency-based university will grant 30 scholarships to undergraduate students enrolling in College of Business
SALT LAKE CITY, June 15, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Nonprofit, online Western Governors University (WGU) is now offering a new scholarship program for new students enrolling in any of its undergraduate degree programs in its College of Business. Applications are now being accepted for the Excellence in Business Scholarship, which provides up to $3,000 ($600 per six-month term, up to five terms). In addition, the $65 university application fee will be waived for those applying for the scholarship at www.wgu.edu/excellenceinbusiness by August 31, 2016.
To be eligible, scholarship applicants must be officially admitted into one of WGU's undergraduate business degree programs, complete the scholarship application, and be interviewed by a WGU scholarship counselor. While WGU will award up to 30 scholarships, recipients will be selected based on their academic records, financial need, and readiness for online study at WGU.
WGU's College of Business currently has more than 26,000 students in all 50 states and is growing at a rate of nearly 20% annually. WGU's business degree programs have been developed in collaboration with industry leaders to ensure that students gain the knowledge and skills that today's employers need.
WGU uses an innovative approach called competency-based education, which measures learning rather than time spent in class. Terms are six months long, and students pay a flat rate of $3,000 per term for most programs, regardless of the number of courses completed.
