What could United States expect from the China-the Americas ties?

WASHINGTON, May 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- On May 8 ,2014,  "American States in Yuan Xikun's Eyes: Preservation and Transformation" sculpture exhibit was unveiled at the Art Museum of the Americas of the Organization of the American State (OAS) in Washington DC. This is a cultural celebration to comprehend the diverse context of multilateral interactions between eastern and western cultures. As the event tribute to the 10^th Anniversary of China's participation as an observer of the OAS, the exhibit includes 12 sculptures of American, Latin American and Caribbean historical figures, consisting of every art piece commissioned by ministries and diplomatic community. The exhibit itself has the mission to extend the reach and amplify the voice, and demonstrate the impact of American cultures and inclusiveness. The exhibition is co-organized by the Art Museum of the Americas, Embassy of the People's Republic of China, DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, Jintai Art Museum (Yiyuan Society) and Washington Diplomat.

Among hundreds of audience, Ambassador Alfonso Quinonez, Secretary for External Relations of the OAS, His Excellency Cui Tiankai, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the United States & the Permanent Observer of China to the OAS, Dr. Nelly Perez Duverge, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic and artist Yuan Xikun unveiled the exhibition. Yuan Xikun, as a renowned Chinese artist invited to draw ink-and-wash portraits for hundreds of foreign dignitaries and as the first Chinese sculptor who received the most international highest medals in the field of sculpture,  Yuan's art career and study on both social and human dimensions highlight the impact of multi-dimensional art practices in reflecting both cultural and social phenomenon. 

The exhibition presents several historic heroes who made exceptional and unique contributions: 'Before the Decisive War-Abraham Lincoln' (the United States), 'Jose Marti' (Cuba), 'Simon Bolivar' (Venezuela), 'Eloy Alfaro' (Ecuador), 'Tupac Amaru' (Peru), 'Lula Da Silva' (Brazil), 'Juan Pablo Duarte' (Dominican Republic), 'Tupac Katari' (Bolivia), 'Juana Azurduy' (Bolivia), 'Andreo De Santa Cruz' (Bolivia), 'Gabriel Garcia Marquez' (Colombia) and '‪Jose de San Martin' (Argentina), etc. This collection embraces a variety of elements of cultures, social norms and minority ethnics.

Located at the sculpture garden of the Art Museum of the Americas, the exhibition is the first time for Chinese artist to display the Americas' related art pieces, and it will open to the public till August 1, 2014.
