Where the Jobs Are: Siemens Seeks to Fill Over 400 Open Positions in its Building Technologies Division

WASHINGTON, July 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Siemens USA seeks to fill over 400 open positions in its Building Technologies division which helps cities across the country reduce energy costs, lower CO2 emissions and save money. Eighty-two percent of Americans now live in cities and as budgets tighten and that number grows, the need for cost-effective energy solutions becomes increasingly important. Cities can lower energy costs by up to 50 percent and lighting costs by up to 80 percent through a comprehensive portfolio of efficient building technologies, including intelligent building automation and lighting controls, energy management and smart grid solutions, as well as renewable energy alternatives from solar to biomass.

"Buildings are actually the world's biggest energy users, even ahead of transportation and industry, consuming one-third of the electricity in the U.S.," said Daryl Dulaney, president and CEO of Siemens Industry, Inc. "Siemens is looking to hire 400 new employees to support sales as well as the subsequent engineering and servicing of buildings targeted for retrofit or modernization to lower energy consumption, reduce CO2 emissions, and improve the bottom line for city budgets."  

To help implement these solutions, Siemens offers cities a financing option called "performance contracting" whereby the city assumes no financial risks as related expenses are completely offset by reductions in operating and energy costs.

"As challenging as these times are, the answers to the problems cities face are largely here, the technology is here, and the methods of getting this done, even without a lot of up-front capital, have been put to work successfully. That's why we are looking to hire these 400 new employees," added Dulaney.

Metropolitan growth was highlighted in a unique study recently commissioned by Siemens and conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit titled the U.S. and Canada Green City Index.  Twenty-seven major U.S. and Canadian cities were assessed and compared in terms of environmental performance and policies across the following nine categories: CO2 emissions, energy, land use, buildings, transport, water, waste, air quality, and environmental governance. The study highlights the growing trend of urbanization and the growth taking place within urban centers that account for 75 percent of the world's energy consumption, making the need for energy efficiency an increasingly important and essential initiative.

Open positions in the Building Technologies division are based in 39 states across the U.S., and require skills and/or experience in building systems and energy efficiency, field service and sales, installation and project management, product marketing, and electrical and mechanical engineering.
