Windmill Leasing Donate Funds to Help Avoncroft's Storm-damaged Post Mill

BROMSGROVE, England, February 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

Managing Director of Windmill Leasing, Keith Townsend pledged his financial support to help fix the damaged windmill at Avoncroft after local news reported that stormy weather had caused one of the sails to break off and damage the lower part of the roof as it fell.

The damaged old structure resides in the grounds of the Museum close to the Windmill Leasing Bromsgrove office base and is said to be over 200 years old and of late 18th century design. It had been nearing the end of a £3,000 project to get it back into working condition before it was damaged in the storms. It holds special significance for the car leasing company as Windmill Leasing was named after the old Post Mill.

Keith Townsend said: "When we heard the news our instant reaction was to find out what we could do to help. As the windmill is where we found our company name it wasn't a matter of if we could help, it was more a case of how.

"Whilst the destruction was devastating to all those involved the one good thing that has come out of it has been to see the local community pulling together to fix the windmill so that everyone can enjoy the attraction once again."

Museum Director, Simon Carter described the windmill damage as "horrifying" and expressed his disappointment that the cost to repair the windmill to its previous state would be in the region of £5,000.

Avoncroft Museum of Historic Building's is situated in a beautiful part of Bromsgrove and is home to more than 27 different historic structures. The ancient buildings have all been rescued from ruin and lovingly restored in the grounds of Avoncroft in rural Worcestershire.
