Winter Antiques Show Showcases Preview To Its 60th Year Diamond Jubilee

NEW YORK, Nov. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Glass by Carlo Scarpa, D-Day letters, Delft puzzle jugs and diamonds galore will gather for the 60th year Diamond Jubilee of the Winter Antiques Show from January 24-February 2, 2014 at the Park Avenue Armory in New York City. The Show is America's most prestigious antiques show, providing museums, collectors, dealers, design professionals, and first-time buyers with opportunities to see and purchase exceptional pieces showcased by 73 renowned experts in American, English, European, and Asian fine and decorative arts. Every object exhibited at the Show is vetted for quality and authenticity. All net proceeds support East Side House Settlement, a non-profit institution in the South Bronx that provides social services to community residents.

The Winter Antiques Show's 2014 loan exhibition is Fresh Take, Making Connections at the Peabody Essex Museum. One of America's oldest and fastest growing museums, the Peabody Essex Museum was established in Salem, Massachusetts in 1799 and its collection showcases an unrivaled spectrum of American art as well as outstanding Asian, Asian export, Native American, African, Oceanic, maritime and photography collections. The loan exhibition includes more than fifty exemplary objects from the museum and a lecture series during the Show. The Winter Antiques Show will also host Young Collectors Night, an exciting evening for new collectors, emerging philanthropists, and art and design enthusiasts, on Thursday, January 30, 2014 sponsored by Brooks Brothers and New York magazine. Exhibitor Highlights:

• Celebrating the Show's 60th year Diamond Jubilee, there will be exceptional jewels on display, including a diamond and pearl pendant (c.1901) set in platinum by Templier at A La Vieille Russie, Inc.; a portrait miniature (c.1780) set in diamonds at Elle Shushan; a radiating Edwardian diamond sunburst brooch by Tiffany & Co. at Kentshire; a French Art Nouveau brooch with diamonds and pink topaz (c.1900) by Henri Vever at Macklowe Gallery, Ltd.; and Wartksi's Edwardian platinum and diamond necklace, (c.1900).
  
• Objects used in games and sports in centuries past can be seen throughout the Show. A clown shooting gallery target, (c.1911) from Allan Katz Americana; an assortment of 17th and 18th century Delft puzzle jugs at Aronson of Amsterdam; a pair of French double-barreled Flintlock De Luxe Sporting Guns by Blanchard (c.1825) at Peter Finer; and a rare British folk art sculpture of a man bowling (c.1900) at Robert Young Antiques.
  
• Complementing the Asian export works on loan from the Peabody Essex Museum are a Chinese export porcelain famille rose punch bowl featuring a hare hunt scene (c.1755) at Cohen & Cohen; Spoilum's Portrait of a Western Merchant in a Chinese Landscape (fl. 1770-1805) at Martyn Gregory, and a pair of 18th-19th century Chinese white glazed porcelain roosters at Ralph M. Chait Galleries, Inc.
  
• Noteworthy American paintings include Jack Tworkov's Bar Decoration (1963-64) at Jonathan Boos, LLC; William H. Wilcox's Atlantic City at Schwarz Gallery; James Edward Buttersworth's Yachts Rounding South West Spit Buoy (c.1875) at Thomas Colville Fine Art; and a pair of portraits by Julian Parisen, Portrait of a Cadet and Portrait of a Young Lady with Flower Basket (both c.1827) at Hirschl & Adler Galleries, Inc.
  
• Showcasing the breadth and diversity of the show are a dozen exhibitors in early to mid-20th century design. This year's highlights include a mahogany sideboard by Charlotte Perriand (c.1958) at Magen H Gallery; a lacquered pear wood art deco cabinet by Jean Pascaud (c.1933) at Maison Gerard; and a Brazilian chaise lounge designed by Joaquim Tenreiro at R 20th Century.
  
• Venetian glass by Carlo Scarpa (complementing the concurrent exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art) will be available at Glass Past. Scarpa's 1936 Corroso vase is one of the Italian architect's designs for Venini.
  
• Audubon and other birds at the Show include his Wood Ibis at Arader Galleries; an Egyptian bronze and wood Ibis with inlaid eyes (c.715-332 BC) at Rupert Wace Ancient Art Limited; a Canada Goose decoy by George H. Boyd (c.1910) at Suzanne Courcier - Robert W. Wilkins; a mahogany case tall clock with an eagle finial (c.1755) by Nathaniel Mulliken at Delaney Antique Clocks; and Eagle in a Snow Covered Pine Tree, a pair of screens by Kishi Renzan  (c. 1850) at Joan B. Mirviss Ltd.
  
• As 2014 marks the 70th anniversary of D-Day, Kenneth W. Rendell Gallery will exhibit several documents related to D-Day and World War II. On Saturday, January 25 at 5:30 p.m., Kenneth W. Rendell will present "The Words of War: Fifty Iconic World War II Documents That Changed the World," a lecture based on his current work.
  
• Objects with aristocratic or royal provenance include a Sevres Plate from the Service Olympique (1806), a gift from Emperor Napoleon I to Czar Alexander I, at Michele Beiny, Inc.; a Schembart Book (carnival book) (1539), which belonged to the Princely House of Liechtenstein until 1949, at Les Enluminures; a leaf from the Spanish prayer book (c. 1508-1509)  that was made for the Spanish aristocratic family Enriquez de Ribera, also at Les Enluminures; a North Italian etched light cavalry half-armor (c.1570), which is from the Armory of Maximilian Ludwig Graf Breuner, Feldmarschall of the Holy Roman Empire and later belonged to the Dukes von Ratibor at Schloss Grafeneff, at Peter Finer; and a Carl Faberge Imperial gold and enamel magnifying glass purchased by Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna from Faberge and gifted to Tsarina's sister, Princess Irene of Prussia, at Wartski.
