Wisconsin Virtual Academy Applauds Legislative Audit Bureau's Report Showing Success of State's Public Virtual Charter Schools
High parent and student satisfaction, increasing enrollment, and strong test scores among key facts and findings in the report
MCFARLAND, Wis., Feb. 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Wisconsin Virtual Academy (WIVA) applauded the key facts and findings of the report on Wisconsin's public virtual charter schools released today by the state's Legislative Audit Bureau (LAB). The report found that Wisconsin's public virtual charter schools are a successful public school option and extremely popular with parents, teachers, and students.
Leslye Erickson, Head of School of the Wisconsin Virtual Academy, said, "This report validates the positive experiences and stories WIVA families and teachers have been sharing for years. WIVA has a track record of academic success, high levels of parent satisfaction, and a vibrant, tight-knit school community -- all of which was captured in the LAB report. We're proud of our success and look forward to serving more students in the future."
WIVA is a tuition-free, statewide public virtual charter school authorized by the McFarland School District. It is available to all Wisconsin families with children in kindergarten through high school. At WIVA, students are able to receive a complete, high quality education at home, on the road, or wherever an Internet connection can be found.
Scott Brown, Superintendent of McFarland School District, said, "Act 222, which was enacted into law in 2008, enabled these innovative public schools to continue offering their education programs to Wisconsin families. The Legislative Audit Bureau followed up with an exhaustive and detailed study of these schools and found, most importantly, that Wisconsin students are well-served by public virtual charter schools. McFarland School District is proud to partner with what I believe is the highest quality program in the state, the Wisconsin Virtual Academy."
WIVA is currently accepting applications to enroll for the 2010-2011 school year during the state's open enrollment period, which concludes on February 19. WIVA is hosting free informational events across the state for interested families. More information on WIVA, including a complete schedule of events, can be found at www.k12.com/wiva.
