WomanCare Global launches Simplant, Long-acting Reversible Contraception, in Chile
SAN DIEGO, May 22, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- WomanCare Global recently launched Simplant in Chile with an extensive training initiative attended by 90 health care providers.

Simplant, a long-acting reversible contraceptive (or LARC), is a highly effective subdermal implant composed of two thin, flexible, silicone rods, each containing 75 mg levonorgestrel (a synthetic form of the hormone progestin). These are inserted under the skin of a woman's arm by a trained health care provider. Simplant provides contraception for four years with an immediate return to fertility upon discontinuation. Simplant has been available since 1994 and has been used by over 8 million women.

The WomanCare Global Simplant Training Meeting was held at the School of Midwifery in Santiago with the collaboration of APROFA which is an International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) affiliate and the distributor of Simplant in Chile. The meeting was chaired by internationally renowned Horacio B. Croxatto, MD, President of the Chilean Institute of Reproductive Medicine (ICMER) and Professor of Reproductive Physiology at the Catholic University of Chile. Dr. Croxatto is considered a world authority on contraception and an early pioneer and innovator of subdermal contraceptive technologies. Trainings were also supported by Matthew Reeves, MD, CMO of WomanCare Global, and Carmen Luz Alvarado, MD and David Eisen, MD, members of APROFA Board of Directors.
