WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., March 15, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Workforce Alliance, through a partnership with the "Take Stock in Children" organization, awarded a four-year college scholarship to ten Palm Beach County high school students. Workforce Alliance is the workforce development organization for Palm Beach County.
To qualify for selection, each student is required to have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 in high school and to remain drug-free and crime-free. The student also receives the opportunity to have a mentor on a regular basis and participate in educational and career development activities in the "Take Stock in Children" program. The recipients of the Workforce Alliance scholarships each have a parent who gained and retained employment through a Workforce Alliance program and attended a series of "Take Stock in Children" educational sessions.
In addition to the scholarship program, Workforce Alliance provides a variety of resources for youth and young adults, including:
- workshops and instruction in computer skills, to include on-line job searching;
- use of the statewide employment resource and database, the Employ Florida Marketplace;
- assistance in creating resumes, interviewing skills and networking, and
- information on wages and educational requirements for careers and jobs that are in demand in Palm Beach County.
The services and workshops are provided at Workforce Alliance's three Career Centers in Palm Beach County, which are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
