Workforce Alliance Supports Florida Disability Mentoring Day and Disability Employment Awareness Month

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., Nov. 16, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Workforce Alliance joined 5,000 other employers in Florida to take part in disability mentoring activities during the month of October.  Disability Mentoring Day and Disability Awareness Month are annual events that promote career development for students and job-seekers through job shadowing and other workplace activities at employer sites.

Florida activities were led by The Able Trust and other statewide partnering organizations such as Workforce Alliance and provided opportunities for people with disabilities to gain workplace experience in the career of their choice.  The activities throughout Florida coincided with National Disability Mentoring Day events across the country supported by the American Association of People with Disabilities.

Workforce Alliance had the privilege of mentoring a student from Palm Beach Gardens High School at its West Palm Beach Career Center.  The mentee shadowed the Program Supervisor of The Ticket to Work program at Workforce Alliance.  The Ticket to Work and Self-Sufficiency Program is an employment program for people with disabilities who are interested in becoming part of the workforce.
