World-Renowned Violinist Cho-Liang Lin to Perform at Fresno State University Violin Festival
Celebrated Virtuoso to Present Chamber Music, Masterclasses, and Tchaikovsky Concerto in Two-Day Appearance
FRESNO, Calif., March 5, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Internationally acclaimed violinist Cho-Liang Lin will headline the Fresno State University Violin Festival with performances and educational activities on March 21-22, 2025. The two-day engagement will showcase Lin's remarkable versatility through intimate chamber music, masterclasses, and a major orchestral performance.
On Friday, March 21, Lin will perform two masterpieces of the chamber music repertoire: Brahms' String Quintet and Dvořák's String Quintet alongside Fresno State faculty members, including violinist Limor Toren-Immerman and cellist Thomas Loewenheim. The Faculty Chamber Music Concert begins at 7:30 PM in the Fresno State Concert Hall.
Throughout both days (March 21-22), Lin will lead public masterclasses from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM in the Wahlberg Recital Hall and Concert Hall, focusing on advanced string techniques, interpretative approaches, and phrasing in Romantic-era repertoire. These educational sessions continue Fresno State's tradition of offering world-class instruction to emerging musicians.
The festival culminates on Saturday, March 22, with a Gala Concert featuring Lin performing Tchaikovsky's beloved Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 35 with the Festival String Orchestra under the direction of Thomas Loewenheim. This virtuosic showpiece will highlight Lin's masterful technique and emotional depth.
"This festival exemplifies our dual commitment to artistic innovation and community service," says Thomas Loewenheim, Director of the Fresno State Violin Festival. "By bringing artists of Cho-Liang Lin's caliber into our pedagogical framework, we elevate the technical prowess of our students while enriching Fresno's cultural landscape."
Lin's association with Fresno State dates back to earlier collaborations, including the 2019 Cello│Fresno Festival, where he mentored competition winners and performed alongside faculty. His pedagogical philosophy emphasizing "emotional authenticity over technical perfection" aligns perfectly with Fresno State's mission to cultivate well-rounded musicians.
