World's First In-Theater Gaming League Brings Video Game Competition To Bay Area Movie Theaters
Super League Gaming Was Founded By A Group Of Dads Looking To Turn Video Games Into A Social And Interactive Experience For Their Kids
LOS ANGELES, June 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Super League Gaming is the world's first in-theater interactive video game league that brings gamers together to play side-by-side on the big movie screen. The startup is taking over 80+ movie theaters across 28 major U.S. cities to launch their Summer Tour and is stopping at select Bay Area theaters next week. Super League has partnered with the nation's three largest movie theater chains -- Regal Entertainment Group, AMC Theatres, and Cinemark Theatres, as well as luxury chain iPic Theaters to turn theaters into interactive gaming arenas for kids across the nation.
For the first time ever, gamers and their teams will compete against each other in movie theaters throughout the country for league championship titles in this new, immersive, face-to-face experience, starting with the game Minecraft, and other game titles to come in the fall.
The 28-city tour will run from June 15 through August 26 to introduce the concept of Super League Gaming and get the word out about league gameplay which starts with consecutive 6-week sessions on September 14.
"It's incredible how many kids are spending hours playing or watching YouTube videos of others playing this game and we thought there just had to be a way to bring these kids, who were all playing alone in their rooms, together somehow," says Super League President and COO Brett Morris. During the 100 minute sessions, gamers will build with their teams, compete in battles and enjoy free time to move within the theater to socialize and strategize with other gamers as they work to climb the international leaderboard.
Super League Gaming's proprietary technology uses Minecraft's open source API to merge all players onto a single screen, creating a wholly new experience for group gameplay. While gamers play in first-person view on their own laptops, a third-person aerial view of the customized Minecraft world will be projected on the theater screen, with views of all the players in action.

With over 100 million downloads, Minecraft is by far the most downloaded computer game of all time and has gained even more popularity in recent years as YouTube gamers have helped propel its rise. CaptainSparklez, a YouTube celebrity with over 8.6 million subscribers watching his Minecraft videos, will be an integral part of Super League Gaming and is set to appear at select events throughout the Summer Tour.
