Wright Medical and Covidien lead the way at the IR Magazine Awards - US 2015
Investor relations professionals celebrate 20 years of IR Magazine Awards at New York event
NEW YORK, March 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Wright Medical and Covidien have maintained their winning IR form from last year, with both companies holding on to several awards at the IR Magazine Awards – US, which took place last night in New York City.
Covidien, a perennial strong performer, took the grand prix for best overall investor relations (large cap) for the fifth year running. It won three of the remaining four awards it was nominated for, too; these included recognition for Covidien's head of IR, Coleman Lannum, who was named best IRO at a large-cap company.
Covidien also played an instrumental role in an award the firm itself did not win, as Medtronic picked up the trophy for best IR during a corporate transaction for its acquisition of the healthcare giant.
Meanwhile, Wright Medical Group maintained its winning ways from last year, picking up awards in all three categories it was nominated for, including the grand prix for small caps. The medical tech firm's head of IR, Julie Tracy, was voted best IRO at a small-cap company, while Robert Palmisano was recognized for the best IR by a CEO (small cap).
The two healthcare companies were among the winners named at a black tie dinner and awards ceremony held at Cipriani Wall Street, New York. Elsewhere during the evening, logistics company Ryder System picked up both the mid-cap grand prix for best overall IR and the best IRO (mid-cap) award.
Banking group JPMorgan Chase & Co also picked up two awards: best financial reporting and best IR in the financials sector. ConocoPhillips and Intel, both of which appeared on short lists for six separate awards, went home with the sector awards for energy and technology, respectively.
The occasion marked a celebration of 20 years of IR Magazine Awards in the US, which recognize excellence in the investor relations profession. Since the annual event first launched in 1996, tens of thousands of analysts and investors have voted in the surveys behind the awards, providing vital benchmarking information on which companies do the best IR.
This year's awards ceremony was once again hosted by David Brancaccio, host and senior editor of American Public Media's Marketplace Morning Report, one of the most popular business news programs in any medium.
The IR Magazine Awards – US 2015 were sponsored by Addison, Argyle, Bank of America, Barclays, Blender Media, BNY Mellon, Business Wire, Citi, Computershare Georgeson, Corbin, Cowen and Company, GE, Innisfree, Investis, Ipreo, KCG, MacKenzie Partners, MBS, MessageBank, Mizuho, NIRI, Okapi, Q4, RCS Capital, RRD, TD Bank Group, theIRapp, UBS and Wells Fargo.
