Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed Over Fatal Stabbing at Governor's Club Home in Brentwood, TN

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Nov. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Attorney Randall L. Kinnard and Kinnard, Clayton & Beveridge have filed a civil wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of the surviving children of Emma Teeters, a 39-year-old wife and mother who was fatally stabbed just days before Thanksgiving by her husband, Jerry Allen Matthews. The lawsuit (Case No. 2018-596) was filed on behalf of Teeters' three surviving minor children in Williamson County Circuit Court.

As the lawsuit notes, the three minor children are seeking compensation from the estate of Jerry Allen Matthews for the pain and suffering, grief, horror, and loss of their mother that they incurred following the death of Emma Teeters.

On the afternoon of Tuesday November 20, 2018, case records show, Jerry Allen Matthews viciously attacked and stabbed Teeters and inflicted severe bodily injury that eventually led to her death. The stabbing occurred at their residential home at the Governor's Club in Brentwood, TN. Teeters was pronounced dead at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she had been transported following the incident.

Additionally, the lawsuit notes Teeters' father, 78-year-old Terry Teeters, had intervened in an attempt to save his daughter's life. Teeters shot and killed Matthews, who died at the scene. Terry Teeters was taken to a local hospital.

Given Matthews' intentional and malicious conduct, the lawsuit notes that the surviving children of Teeters suffered a profound and terrible loss. The suit seeks damages for intentional infliction of emotional distress and punitive damages, as well as the children's' severe emotional injuries and the loss of their mother's companionship, love, and affection, among other damages.
