Wuksachi Lodge Weathers High Sierra Storm in High Spirits
A series of winter storms temporarily closes Sequoia National Park while delivering over four feet of snow at the lodge for a perfect holiday backdrop
SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK, Calif., Dec. 21, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- With winter storm conditions closing road access to Sequoia National Park since Sunday, the Wuksachi Lodge, in the heart of the park, has evacuated, rebooked or provided full refunds to its impacted guests, while serving those who settled in to stay and preparing for a very white Christmas when roads reopen.
To date, more than four feet of snow has fallen at Wuksachi Lodge since the storm began. The National Weather Service is forecasting that the precipitation will taper off Wednesday evening with Thursday mostly cloudy and Christmas Eve expected to be mostly sunny in the Sierra Nevada.
"The holiday season is always popular here, and this year will be spectacular," said Wuksachi Lodge General Manager Diane Mason. "It has been about 10 years since we've seen such record rainfall and road closures here."
Guests this winter can take full advantage of the amazing setting by snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snowman building, or simply gazing upon the beauty from inside the cozy lodge.
