Xinhua Silk Road: Jiaxing Nanhu Airport gains strong momentum in global aviation logistics hub landscape

BEIJING, Sept. 24, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- An index report about innovation development of the global aviation logistics hubs (2026) was released on Wednesday, showing that Jiaxing Nanhu Airport (YTO Skyhub) is gaining strong momentum in the global aviation logistics hub landscape.

The index, compiled by China Economic Information Service (CEIS) under Xinhua News Agency, was released at the themed event on the international logistics and supply chains of the Fifth Global Digital Trade Expo (GDTE), which was held in Jiaxing City, east China's Zhejiang Province.

The index, covering 25 representative aviation logistics hubs worldwide, establishes an evaluation system across five dimensions including innovation environment, innovation resources, innovation application, innovation services, as well as development quality and efficiency, providing a clear picture of each hub's innovation characteristics and development potential.

The index report pointed out that, facing industry transformation trends such as digitalization, green development and the low-altitude economy, global aviation logistics hubs are at a critical window for transformation and development. Asia-Pacific and North America have emerged as major centers of aviation logistics innovation. 

According to the report, China has developed a multi-tiered airport system. Leveraging its vast hinterland, airport economic demonstration zones and the benefits of free trade policies, China continues to unlock new momentum for innovation in cargo logistics and airport-related industries. 

Taking the Yangtze River Delta as an example, the region is one of China's most economically dynamic, open and innovative areas. In 2025, the total value of imports and exports of goods by Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang reached 2.2 trillion U.S. dollars, accounting for about 35.2 percent of the national total. This provides Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Jiaxing Nanhu Airport (YTO Skyhub) with a high volume of international cargo, diverse cargo types and a wide range of customs clearance scenarios.

As one of the world's latest generation of specialized air cargo hubs, YTO Skyhub, the core cargo-handling platform of the Jiaxing Nanhu Airport cargo hub, officially began operations at the end of 2025.

With a total investment of 12.2 billion yuan, the project has a designed annual cargo and mail handling capacity of 1.1 million metric tons, which is expected to reach 2.4 million metric tons in the long term.
