XL Catlin To Hold Global Day of Giving on Thursday, May 19, 2016
DUBLIN, Ireland, May 17, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- XL Group plc ("XL") (NYSE: XL) announced today that its XL Catlin offices around the world will hold a Global Day of Giving on Thursday, May 19, 2016.
The Global Day of Giving is a company-wide employee volunteer day dedicated to supporting the communities in which XL Catlin operates.
Since the inception of Global Day of Giving in 2006, XL Catlin colleagues have performed more than 210,000 hours of community service through hundreds of charitable projects in various locations worldwide.
XL's Chief Executive Officer, Mike McGavick, who will be volunteering at a soup kitchen in Stamford, Connecticut on Thursday, said: "As a company created to solve complex risks and help other companies, and ultimately the world, move forward, it is fitting that we at XL Catlin look forward each year to doing the same for non-profit organizations around us. By sharing our time, talent and skills collectively with our non-profit neighbors, they are able to focus on what they do best – improving the communities in which we all live and work."
During this year's Global Day of Giving, more than 250 projects have been scheduled in approximately 70 locations around the world to address diverse issues, including homelessness, hunger, unemployment, education and youth development, senior care and the environment.
For example, XL Catlin colleagues in Shanghai, China will work with intellectually-disabled residents to make eco-friendly soaps that will be sold to raise revenue for the residents. Colleagues in Colombia will prepare meals for homeless children at a community center. XL Catlin attorneys in New York will provide pro-bono legal services to victims of domestic violence. XL Catlin colleagues in London will mentor unemployed social housing residents on interview and presentation skills. And a team of colleagues in Hartford, Connecticut will teach high school students about international business.
