The 2026 conference will explore how Canada can strengthen its position in global clinical research, with discussions on improving trial efficiency, integrating research into patient care and expanding access to clinical trials.
"CTO's Clinical Trials Conference has become one of Canada's most important forums for bringing together diverse voices from across the clinical trials community to share knowledge, challenge thinking and drive innovation," said Susan Marlin, President & CEO, CTO. "We look forward to welcoming delegates and presenters from across Canada and around the world to help shape better, smarter and faster clinical trials that ultimately deliver greater value for patients and participants."
The program will feature keynote presentations from Christine Elliott, former Ontario Minister of Health and Deputy Premier, and Dr. Tor Biering-Sørensen, Professor and Founding Head of the Center for Translational Cardiology and Pragmatic Randomized Trials. Elliott will examine why Canada needs to become more competitive in clinical research and better connect research with patient care, while Dr. Biering-Sørensen will discuss clinical trial innovations from Denmark and the European Union (EU).
Other sessions will address the modernization of clinical trial regulations, the use of AI and health data in research, and efforts to accelerate study start-up. This includes a discussion of early lessons from CTO's QuickSTART initiative, which has demonstrated a 45-day study start-up timeline in its first studies.
Attendees will also gain insights into psilocybin research, including clinical trials underway in Canada and the opportunities and challenges surrounding psychedelic-assisted care.
The agenda will also explore equitable access to clinical trials, Indigenous research sovereignty and approaches to making research more patient-centred. Sessions will examine advance consent in acute stroke trials and how a breast cancer study challenged conventional treatment approaches.
"Having attended last year's CTO Clinical Trials Conference, I was struck by the energy in the room and the thoughtful questions and exchanges among attendees," said Soumya Shashikumar, Senior Life Sciences Journalist at Xtalks. "As a Media Partner, Xtalks looks forward to support this year's discussions on clinical trial innovation, efficiency and patient access."
