Yamaha Introduces Next-Generation YDS-152 and YDS-122 Digital Saxophones

Enhanced playability, expanded instrument voices and upgraded connectivity bring new possibilities for musical expression to players of all experience levels

BUENA PARK, Calif., Nov. 3, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Yamaha today announces the U.S. availability of the YDS-152 and YDS-122 Digital Saxophones, the second generation of its innovative digital wind instrument series. Building on the success of the original YDS-150 and YDS-120, the new models combine the expressive, breath-controlled experience of a traditional saxophone with the flexibility and convenience of digital technology, making music creation more accessible and enjoyable for beginners and experienced musicians alike.

First introduced in 2020, the Yamaha Digital Saxophone series was designed to bring the joy of playing a wind instrument to more people, regardless of experience, environment, or musical background. Offering the familiar key layout and expressive capabilities of an acoustic saxophone alongside adjustable volume and headphone connectivity, the series provides an approachable way to play, practice and explore music anytime, anywhere.

The new YDS-152 and YDS-122 build on this foundation with 89 instrument voices, including 16 newly added acoustic instrument sounds, USB-C connectivity, improved key durability and action, and an updated analog controller for more expressive pitch manipulation. Together, these enhancements expand the creative possibilities of the instruments while preserving the intuitive, engaging playing experience that defines the series.

"The new YDS-122 and YDS-152 represent the next evolution of the Yamaha Digital Saxophone. We've enhanced the features players value most while making the experience even more versatile, accessible, and enjoyable," said Sarah Hollandsworth, product marketing manager for winds & strings at Yamaha. "Whether you're an experienced musician looking for new creative possibilities or someone discovering the joy of making music for the first time, these instruments are designed to inspire expression, exploration, and connection through music."

Key Features

1. Expanded instrument voices for greater creative expression
The YDS-152 and YDS-122 feature 89 instrument voices, including 16 new acoustic instrument sounds such as violin, flute and timpani, alongside an extensive selection of saxophone and synthesizer voices. This expanded sound library lets players explore a broader range of musical genres, experiment with different sounds and discover new ways to express their creativity with a single instrument.
2. Enhanced playability and expressive control
Designed to deliver a natural, engaging playing experience, both models feature an acoustic, saxophone-style key layout; improved key durability and action; and an updated analog controller for expressive pitch manipulation. Breath-responsive sound allows players to shape their musical expression, combining the familiar feel of a wind instrument with the versatility of digital technology.
3. Upgraded connectivity and digital flexibility
New USB-C connectivity makes it easier to connect the instruments to compatible smart devices and computers, supporting integration with the free YDS Controller app and MIDI functionality. The app lets players customize instrument settings and explore new creative possibilities, whether practicing, performing or experimenting with sound.
4. Flexible playing for anytime, anywhere enjoyment
With built-in speakers, adjustable volume and headphone connectivity, the YDS-152 and YDS-122 let players make music in a variety of environments. Their portable design makes it easy to practice at home, explore new sounds or enjoy playing without the volume considerations of a traditional acoustic saxophone.
5. Additional features for an immersive playing experience with the YDS-152
The YDS-152 offers additional capabilities, including Bluetooth® connectivity, motion-sensing control and the Yamaha Integrated Bell Acoustic System. Designed to enhance the playing experience, these features provide additional opportunities for musical expression and engagement. A soft case and neck strap are also included for convenient transport and playing comfort.
