Yihai Group Recognized at Gala Dinner of the National Committee of U.S. - China Relations
NEW YORK, Nov. 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- At this year's gala dinner of the National Committee of U.S. – China Relations (NCUSCR) held at the Plaza Hotel in New York, the Yihai Group was recognized and thanked for its contributions to the work of the Committee to strengthen the relationship between the two countries. Distinguished guests at the dinner were Chinese Ambassador to the United States Cui Tiankai, Henry Kissinger and former AIG President Hank Greenberg, among others.
Stephen Orlins, President of the National Committee on U.S. – China Relations, announced that the Committee has raised more than $15.2 million in donations in support of educational initiatives between the United States and China. The funds will also enable the National Committee to launch innovative programs in healthcare and entrepreneurship.
Ambassador Cui Tiankai read a letter from China's President Xi Jinping congratulating the Committee for its contributions. President Xi believes that China will continue to work closely with the United States to solve global problems as part of a "new era" of cooperation between the two countries. The Ambassador said that China seeks global partnerships, not world dominance.
Yihai Group, under the leadership of its Chairman Linda Wong, has been a long-time supporter of the National Committee of U.S. – China Relations. She believes that education is pivotal to future relationships and Yihai Group underwrites the Student Leaders Exchange, which is administered by the NCUSCR. Fredy Xin, Head of Real Estate and Investments at Yihai Group, represented Chairman Wong's family at this event. "On behalf of my family and the entire Yihai Group, we are pleased to support this important organization," said Mr. Xin.
With Yihai's support over the past three years, the Student Leaders Exchange has sent 36 exemplary U.S. high school students to China for a two week visit that includes meeting with their contemporaries, staying with host families and learning about Chinese history and culture. "We are pleased to work closely with the NCUSCR for this innovative program that exposes America's future leaders to Chinese culture and education. We look forward to continuing this groundbreaking relationship," said Ms. Wong.
From 2012 through 2104, Yihai Group has also supported the "Sino-US Teacher Exchange" through NCUSCR where Chinese and American teachers learn about the other country's education system along with its politics and economy. They then bring this knowledge back to their own classroom and communities.
Yihai's $500,000 contribution to the National Committee's 50th Anniversary Campaign was given in recognition of the group's vision for constructive U.S. – China relations, which are essential to the global community. The recent meeting between President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping reaffirms the friendship between the two countries and China's position as an important world leader.
"We congratulate the National Committee of U.S. – China Relations on its 50th Anniversary and are pleased to support its mission. Their work is very important and essential to the people of both countries in fostering international relations," said Ms. Wong.
Under Linda Wong's leadership over the past 20 years, Yihai Property has developed major real estate projects in China. Ms. Wong is also a philanthropist, who has been recognized globally for her work with children and educators, the elderly and artists. Education is personally so important to her that she created a development model in her Chinese housing complexes that includes schools for the youngest members of a family and an elder college.
