LOS ANGELES, June 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Santa Monica-based YogaWorks, the yoga industry leader offering multiple disciplines of yoga instruction, announced today the acquisition of San Francisco-based Yoga Tree, bringing together two strong, authentic yoga brands. The acquisition of 8 Yoga Tree studios substantially enhances YogaWorks' existing footprint of 5 Bay Area studios and increases its studio presence to nearly 40 locations across Northern California, Southern California and New York. Originally founded in Santa Monica, CA in 1987, today YogaWorks operates 38 studios across four markets, a robust interactive online platform, MyYogaWorks, and a best-in-class Teacher Training Program. Following the Yoga Tree acquisition, YogaWorks plans to continue expanding with several additional locations scheduled to open in 2015 to deliver its signature yoga offerings.
"YogaWorks' core purpose is to transform people's lives by offering an accessible and diverse array of yoga styles and teachers to anyone from beginner students to the most advanced yogis," said YogaWorks CEO Phil Swain. "The acquisition of Yoga Tree allows us to add a group of very successful studios and skilled teachers to our team, supporting our mission to provide as many people as possible with a path to a healthier lifestyle, both emotionally and physically."
Yoga Tree founders Tim Dale and Tara Dale opened the first Yoga Tree studio in 1999 with the goal of enriching people's lives on every level through yoga. As they grew from one studio to nine, they worked tirelessly to cultivate a culture of diversity; allowing each studio to reflect the unique needs of the students who called that location home.
"So many believe the practice of yoga is about the poses, but I have always believed it is about the people," said Tara Dale. "Yoga Tree's goal since the beginning was to create a safe and welcoming environment---a place where people can leave the stress of life at the door when they walk in and breathe a little deeper, reconnect with their essence and walk out feeling better than when they walked in the door." Tim Dale adds, "We chose to partner with YogaWorks because they share our commitment to high quality yoga and teacher training; respect for a wide variety of yoga styles; passion for studio diversity; and a mission to deeply transform people's lives."
YogaWorks plans to continue operating the eight acquired studios under the Yoga Tree name, keeping operations, classes, schedules and teachers largely unchanged with the exception of the Corte Madera location, which is being retained by Tim Dale. Yoga Tree students will be able to use their Yoga Tree classes and memberships at all five current YogaWorks studios in the Bay Area -- Larkspur, Mill Valley, San Francisco, Palo Alto and Walnut Creek. Yoga Tree students will also receive one month of complimentary access to over 700 online yoga videos through YogaWorks' rich online platform, MyYogaWorks.com.
