Yosufzai is Named Chair of the AIChE Foundation
Vice President of Chevron will lead engineering society's fundraising to support global initiatives in education, safety, and workplace diversity and inclusion
NEW YORK, Nov. 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The AIChE Foundation — the philanthropic arm of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) — has named S. Shariq Yosufzai, Vice President, Global Diversity, Chevron Corporation, as its chair. Yosufzai will lead strategic development for the Foundation's initiatives — exemplified by the ongoing Doing a World of Good campaign, which funds projects that chemical engineers have identified as crucial to advancing the good works of the profession. These areas of investment include projects that increase the diversity and inclusiveness of the engineering workspace, as well as initiatives devoted to safety and ethical practice; technical literacy; and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education programs to attract young people to the chemical engineering profession.
Yosufzai succeeds Eduardo D. Glandt, Dean Emeritus of the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Pennsylvania, as Foundation chair. Pablo Debenedetti, the Class of 1950 Professor in Engineering and Applied Science, Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering, and Dean for Research at Princeton University, joins the Foundation's leadership as vice chair.
In his role at Chevron, Yosufzai is responsible for the company's Diversity and Inclusion and Ombuds functions, and oversees Chevron's strategic partnerships with universities and professional societies. He previously served as President of Chevron Global Marketing, where he led Chevron's fuels marketing, commercial and industrial marketing, and convenience retailing operations across 90 countries for the company's Chevron, Texaco, and Caltex brands.
In 2016, Yosufzai was recognized as among the "Top Executives in Corporate Diversity" by Black Enterprise Magazine, and one of the "Top 25 Champions of Diversity in STEM" by Diversity Global Magazine. He was selected one of 2015's "Top 50 Diversity Professionals in Industry" worldwide by The Economist's Global Diversity List. That same year, the World Affairs Council of San Francisco honored Yosufzai as an outstanding foreign-born leader who had made outsized contributions to the Bay Area economy and culture.
Yosufzai is a Fellow of AIChE and received AIChE's Industry Leadership Award, among numerous honors. He earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Texas A&M University, which has recognized him as a Distinguished Alumnus, Outstanding International Alumnus, and Outstanding Engineering Alumnus.
