LOS ANGELES, Oct. 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --

WHAT:

For more than two decades, Foot Locker associates have volunteered their time to sort and organize thousands of pairs of brand new athletic shoes and socks donated by the Company to Southern California's impoverished children.

The sorting of 5,000 pairs of shoes is part of the preparations underway at the Fred Jordan Mission on Skid Row which has been hosting America's largest Back-to School New Clothing Giveaway for the past 23 years.  On Thursday, October 6, 2011, underprivileged children from all over southern California are given free brand new shoes, clothes, school supplies and food to help them get a great start to the school year, thanks to a unique partnership between Fred Jordan Mission, Foot Locker, and other generous contributors.

Since its inception, hundreds of thousands of new shoes, clothing, backpacks, school supplies and personal care kits have been donated to underprivileged children and well over 100,000 children have gone back to school in style.  The goal is to equip thousands of less fortunate kids for academic success by sending them back to school with dignity, tools and a sense of self-worth.
