Yun Family Foundation sponsors an incentive prize on incentives -- a $10,000 research paper prize on the research topic "Inclusive Stakeholding: Reimagining Incentives to Promote the Greater Good" in the new journal 'Frontiers in Blockchain'
MENLO PARK, Calif., Dec. 18, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Yun Family Foundation announces the sponsorship of a $10,000 research paper prize on the research topic "Inclusive Stakeholding: Reimagining Incentives to Promote the Greater Good" in the new journal Frontiers in Blockchain. The prize will be awarded to the most outstanding research published in the Blockchain for Good section of Frontiers in Blockchain.
In 2018, Frontiers in Blockchain was launched as the first peer-reviewed journal dedicated to blockchain from a scientific publisher. Blockchain is an emerging technology that enables new modes of communication, synchronisation, and transfer of value with broad impact for society, industry, commerce and government. Among the world's 20 largest publishers in 2017, Frontiers ranks 4th most-cited.
In July, the Yun Family Foundation launched the Inclusive Stakeholding Initiative to nurture social innovations that institute vested interest in the success of others as a way to promote the greater good. In his March speech "Inclusive Stakeholding" to 10,000 people at a San Francisco rally, Jeremy Yun, a principal at the Yun Family Foundation, asked the crowd to take on responsibility for the success of others, as a way to succeed.
Conrad Yun, president of the Yun Family Foundation, commented, "Harvard evolutionary biologist Joseph Henrich noted that all prosocial institutions over time collapse at the hands of self-interest. We are sponsoring the Inclusive Stakeholding research topic to help society reimagine new types of social, political, and economic institutions based on establishing vested interest in the success of others, goal congruence and aligning the interests among stakeholders."
Natalie Geld, Associate Editor of the Frontiers in Blockchain's specialty section Blockchain for Good, explained, "Evolving integrative systems of influence—neurobiological to technological—are interdependent to open access and unbiased discovery, analysis, and communication across disciplines. The Blockchain for Good movement empowers nascent developers to spur innovation, to reimagine systems and business models that demonstrate revolutionary ways for adding value."
Jeremy Yun, who hosted a blockchain conference in Atherton, California last year, noted in his TEDx talk that society has shifted from the aligned solidarity of kin villages to the non-aligned solitarity of a global village. "Family values didn't scale well as we globalized," he added. "Blockchain algorithms can be designed to mimic vested interest among stakeholders the way bioalgorithms do among kin hives. We hope our sponsorship of this research topic will inspire Frontiers in Blockchain readers and the public to pursue such designs."
Research Topic editor, Ms. Geld, added, "Along with exploring true potential for blockchain to address difficult issues, authors should fully consider efforts toward overcoming barriers to adoption, mitigating risk, and unintended negative impact.
