Zephyr Project Expands Ecosystem with Silicon Labs Upgrading to Platinum Membership and New Silver Members Beningo Embedded Group, Raytac and Tenstorrent

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 21, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the Zephyr® Project announced that Silicon Labs has upgraded membership to Platinum as Beningo Embedded Group, Raytac and Tenstorrent join as Silver members. Zephyr, an open source project at the Linux Foundation that builds a secure, connected and flexible RTOS for future-proof and resource-constrained devices, is easy to deploy and manage. It is a proven RTOS ecosystem created by developers for developers.

The Ecosystem Expands
Silicon Labs, which joined the Zephyr Project in January 2022, is a leading global innovator in low-power wireless connectivity, building embedded technology that connects devices and improves lives. Zephyr 4.2 Release
Zephyr RTOS has a growing set of software libraries that can be used across various applications and industry sectors such as Industrial IoT, wearables, machine learning and more. It is built with an emphasis on broad chipset support, security, dependability, long-term support releases and a growing open source ecosystem. Zephyr supports more than 750 boards running embedded microcontrollers from Arm and RISC-V to Tensilica, Renesas RX, ARC and x86 as single and multicore systems. The community launched the 4.2 release in July 2025, which set a new contribution record—with 810 developers from around the globe. This release introduces initial support for the Renesas RX architecture, expanding Zephyr's reach into high-performance, low-power MCU domains. Other highlights include:

• The USB device stack now includes USB Video Class (UVC), enabling Zephyr-powered devices to function as standard USB webcams.
• A new Twister power harness helps automatically validate device power consumption against expected thresholds.
• The Zbus library reaches maturity with a stable v1.0.0 AP. Hardware support grows substantially with 96 new boards and 22 new shields added.
