WASHINGTON, April 3, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- ZERO – The End of Prostate Cancer has been selected as one of 2014 Best Nonprofits to work for by The NonProfit Times' annual survey. ZERO ranked 44 in a group of top-tier nonprofits nationwide.
"We're honored to be recognized as one of the top 50 best nonprofits to work for in the U.S.," said ZERO's CEO Jamie Bearse. "This great distinction is reflected in the dedication that ZERO's talented staff shows every day to achieve our mission of ending prostate cancer."
ZERO was one of few nonprofits working in the cancer space selected for the award. The awardees ranged from lean nonprofits like ZERO, with staff of less than 50, to large organizations such as the American Heart Association and Alzheimer's Association with a staff larger than 250.
The annual survey found common threads in the way top nonprofits work to increase employee job satisfaction. Reflective of ZERO's values of alignment, impact, transparency, and courage, the best nonprofits are focusing on pay, benefits and incentives, employee engagement and communication, and staff development and growth.
In addition to being motivated by ZERO's mission to end prostate cancer – a disease that affects one in seven American men – high-performing, talented employees at ZERO are rewarded with a culture that values personal and career growth, work-life balance, and freedom.
The Best Nonprofit program was open to all nonprofits with 501(c)(3) status that have a facility with a minimum of 15 employees in the United States. The assessment process was managed for The NonProfit Times by Best Companies Group (BCG) in Harrisburg, Pa., an independent workplace research firm specializing in identifying and recognizing great places to work throughout the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
