Zeus Healthcare Announces Completion of ICD-10 / HIPAA 5010 Compliance Initiative

JERSEY CITY, N.J., Sept. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Zeus Healthcare, a leading provider of outsourced medical billing and EHR services, today announced it has completed transition readiness to ICD-10 and HIPAA 5010, the new coding and transaction standards for its healthcare customers.

As part of the initiative, Zeus Healthcare worked with its customers and partners to ensure timely compliance with the new ICD-10 and HIPAA 5010 requirements.

Under new legislation, payers must demonstrate their ability to receive HIPAA 5010 transactions -- transactions that define the rules of electronic transmission of healthcare data -- in a test environment by January 2011, move those 5010 transactions into production by January 2012, and have the ability to accept ICD-10 codes by October 2013. ICD-10 is expected to provide a much more extensive way to track diagnoses and procedures than the current system. It is also expected to help health plans measure quality, safety and efficacy of cases, improve clinical, financial and administrative performance and prevent and detect fraud and abuse.
