Zimride by Enterprise Partnering With SF-Marin Food Bank to Tackle Hunger This Holiday Season

ST. LOUIS, Dec. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Zimride by Enterprise is partnering with the SF-Marin Food Bank to help fight hunger by donating $1 for every ride posted in December.

Zimride, a service of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, is the largest web-based ride-matching and carpooling network in North America and has served more than 350,000 people through a network of more than 130 universities, cities and corporate campuses. "As families gather this month in the places they call home to celebrate, we wanted to show our support for the place where the Zimride story began: San Francisco," said Ryan Johnson, Vice President at Enterprise.

As a sustainable alternative to driving individually, Zimride easily connects drivers and passengers heading to the same area, and helps reduce vehicle emissions, traffic congestion, fuel consumption and financial costs through shared rides. The platform's unique approach to ride matching also allows members to link their profiles to their Facebook pages.

Rides posted to or from any location within Zimride's national network qualify, and every dollar donated allows the SF-Marin Food Bank to distribute enough groceries for three meals. The Food Bank plays a central role in the food assistance network in San Francisco and Marin counties, where one in four residents struggle with hunger. The Food Bank supports 450 community organizations, and each week helps serve 144,000 people throughout the area.

"Zimride members throughout the country can help us give back by posting their ride," said Food Bank spokesperson Blain Johnson. "We hope that many Zimride members share their rides – and a meal – with others this holiday season."

Across the U.S., universities, cities and corporations have collaborated with Zimride to promote ride matching as a sustainable and affordable form of transportation. The service is ideal for both day-to-day transportation needs, such as commuting, as well as special occasions, such as a weekend trip out of town or going home for the holidays. In just a few seconds, drivers and passengers on zimride.com can set up a profile, search for open seats or post their ride and destination publicly or privately.
