Sponsorship honors all police dogs that have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. and WASHINGTON, Dec. 4, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Zoetis and American Humane Association today announced that the company will sponsor the Law Enforcement Dog category for the 2016 American Humane Association Hero Dog Awards. The sponsorship is in honor of Diesel, the police dog killed in service during the recent terrorist attacks in France. Diesel's heroism and service to his country is representative of all of the valiant canines who serve and have given their lives protecting communities around the world.

"We are honored to work once again with Zoetis on our annual tribute to heroes on both ends of the leash," said Robin Ganzert, PhD, president and CEO of American Humane Association. "It is a fitting memorial to Diesel and all of the canines who protect us and risk their lives to keep so many around the world safe. We thank Zoetis for their commitment to honoring these heroes and their continued generous sponsorship of our work protecting the nation's children and animals."

"Diesel's sacrifice is yet another example of the heroic work done by law enforcement dogs everywhere," said J. Michael McFarland, DVM, DABVP, group director, Companion Animal Marketing at Zoetis. "This year alone in the United States, 26 police dogs have given their lives in the line of duty to help protect others.[1] Zoetis is pleased to expand our partnership with American Humane Association to include recognition of these dogs who truly exemplify the human-animal bond in action."

Zoetis will continue to be the exclusive sponsor of the American Humane Association Hero Veterinarian and Hero Veterinary Technician Awards™, and the company's RIMADYL K-9 Courage Program™ will again sponsor the Military Dog category at the Hero Dog Awards.

The RIMADYL K-9 Courage Program provides healthcare assistance to retired police and military dogs in the form of a $300 debit card to be used for any service offered by the dog's veterinarian. Currently, the program is providing this benefit to 500 dogs; in honor of Diesel, and all police dogs, Zoetis is making an additional financial contribution that will enable the program to support up to an additional 50 dogs.

About the American Humane Association Hero Dog Awards
Dogs do so much for us, and in turn it is imperative that we do everything in our power to ensure they are kept healthy, happy and treated humanely. To shine a light on the extraordinary work done by ordinary dogs and underscore the remarkable power of the human-animal bond, American Humane Association created the American Humane Association Hero Dog Awards, an annual, year-long search for America's bravest heroes on both ends of the leash. Dog owners across the country are invited to visit www.herodogawards.org starting early next year and nominate their four-legged hero in one of eight categories. The top dog in each category will be flown to Los Angeles and celebrated at a red carpet, star-studded awards gala where one heroic hound will be named American Hero Dog of the year—the most prestigious honor a canine can receive.

About the RIMADYL K-9 Courage Program
Launched in January 2015, the RIMADYL K-9 Courage Program provides veterinary medical support for retired military and police dogs. Through the program, Zoetis, the maker of RIMADYL® (carprofen), will help with annual healthcare costs for as many as 500 retired military and police dogs. Each recipient will receive $300 on a debit card annually that can be used for any services offered at their veterinary clinic such as wellness exams, vaccinations and grooming. More information on the program is available at www.rimadylk9courage.com.
