17Fifty Bistro At Houston Marriott West Loop By The Galleria Welcomes New Chef
Andres Rumis will take the reimagined restaurant at the hotel in Houston to new culinary heights
HOUSTON, Jan. 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Houston Marriott West Loop by The Galleria has strengthened its ability to satisfy guests' cravings with the hiring of a new chef for its reimagined restaurant.
Taking over 17Fifty Bistro, Andres Rumis brings an impressive culinary background to the West Houston hotel's revamped eatery. The restaurant serves mouthwatering Southwestern cuisine with a Texas flair at breakfast, lunch and dinner.
"I am eager to utilize my high level of culinary knowledge and flair in this new role at one of the premier hotels near The Galleria in Houston," Rumis said. "I have enjoyed continuous rave reviews for food quality and preparation and will strive to consistently wow my guests at 17Fifty."
Hailing from Argentina, Rumis attended the International Buenos Aires Hotel and Restaurant School, where he received a degree in culinary arts. He began his culinary career at the Hotel Park Tower in Buenos Aires and Sheraton Cordoba Hotel in his hometown as part of the teams that opened the facilities. In both establishments, Rumis began as a cook, developing and honing his taste, skills and creativity.
Rumis furthered his career in 1999 when he relocated to the United States and joined the Marriott International family with an externship at The Ritz-Carlton in Phoenix, where he performed in the capacity of sous chef and restaurant chef. He then transitioned to "command the stoves" at the exclusive Desert Mountain Golf Club in Scottsdale as chef de cuisine, overseeing all aspects of culinary duties including catering.
Following this position, Rumis was presented the opportunity to start the Houston branch of Rosemary's Catering and its hotel division, leading the culinary program at the Hotel Sorella City Centre prior to joining the Houston Marriott West Loop by The Galleria.
At 17Fifty, Rumis will be tasked with creating innovative menus focusing on seasonality and the use of local resources. His extensive cooking techniques with classic French and Italian cuisines combined with his Latin American flair will create a unique culinary experience at the restaurant hotel near the Galleria. Additionally, Rumis' cooking style has been influenced by his travels to Asia, Mexico, South America, Europe, the Middle East and Caribbean Islands.
The 17Fifty menu is designed around fresh, local resources to create vibrant Texas-inspired cuisine. The one-of-a-kind dishes paired with attentive service in a casual yet elegant dining space make for a memorable meal for all visitors.
In his spare time, Rumis enjoys traveling, scuba diving, movies and spending time with wife Ligia and his two German Shepherds, Chac and Shadow.
