This year's fundraising event was held last weekend, August 24th and 25th. The Sponsors of the event included Fireside Natural Gas, Prince, T2Tennis, La Parrilla Mexican Restaurant, Chandon Winery, Benchmark Physical Therapy, Soho Office and the community of Governors Towne Club. Donations raised from a baked goods auction fondly titled, Diva Desserts, a Bra Decorating Contest and a Silent Auction comprised of donations from over 100 local businesses, medical practices, sports professionals, and artists generated over $25,000 in proceeds, exceeding last year's effort by more than $2500.
In addition to the tennis tournament, this year's event included a Ladies Luncheon attended by 65+ women who were treated to a moving speech by Deannie Eaton, a Pink Ribbon Story Foundation Ambassador and breast cancer survivor. Eaton shared glimpses of her personal journey along with her advise about the importance of vigilant self-monitoring.
The Chairperson for the 2012 event was Gwen Buller, a homeowner in Governors Towne Club who lost her own mom to breast cancer in 2011. Gwen was recognized earlier this year as Citizen of the Year for West Cobb by the Chamber of Commerce in honor of her tireless work and ongoing commitment to find a cure for breast cancer, which strikes one in eight women in America every year.
