TORONTO, March 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ - CTV and The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) announced today that the incomparable k.d. lang will perform on CTV's live broadcast of THE 2013 JUNO AWARDS. Lang, the 2013 Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee, becomes the eighth performer confirmed for the broadcast, and joins previously announced acts Billy Talent, Carly Rae Jepsen, Hannah Georgas, Marianas Trench, host Michael Bublé, Serena Ryder, and The Sheepdogs.

During the broadcast, one of lang's childhood idols, Canadian icon Anne Murray, will induct the renowned artist into the prestigious Canadian Music Hall of Fame, where she will join the ranks of Murray, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Oscar Petersen, Joni Mitchell, Rush, and Blue Rodeo, among others.

A constant presence in Canadian music since she began re-writing the rules of country and pop music more than 25 years ago, k.d. lang's wide-ranging career is one that continues to grow. A winner of eight JUNO Awards and four Grammy Awards^®, lang, was first drawn toward music while she was in college, attracted initially to country darling Patsy Cline. Lang's first band, The Reclines, formed in 1983, was a tribute to Cline and her music. After receiving national attention in 1984 with her second album A Truly Western Experience, lang won her first JUNO Award in 1985 for Most Promising Female Vocalist. Lang recorded her second major label album in Nashville in 1987 and performed a duet with Roy Orbison on his hit song "Crying," for the film Hiding Out. From there, lang's popularity really grew, first within the mainstream country music circles, followed by modern and alternative fans, and eventually adult contemporary pop. Her contemporary pop album Ingénue was released in 1992, with the first single, "Constant Craving," becoming a Top 40 American hit, and lang winning the Grammy Award^® for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female. The album achieved platinum status in the U.S., Britain, and Australia; while at home in Canada it was certified double platinum. Ingénue also garnered lang three JUNO Awards, including Album of the Year and Songwriter of the Year. Lang found continued success with her follow up albums All You Can Eat, Invincible Summer, and Drag. In 2004, lang recorded Hymns of the 49^th Parallel, a collection of songs by Canadian songwriters, including Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Ron Sexsmith, and Neil Young. 

In 2007, lang and Anne Murray recorded Murray's Grammy^®-winning hit, "A Love Song", which was included on the album, Anne Murray Duets: Friends & Legends. At the Opening Ceremony of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, lang performed a haunting rendition of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" to rave reviews (she also famously sang the hit to a standing ovation on THE 2005 JUNO AWARDS in Winnipeg). In 2011, she revisited her country roots with a new album Sing it Loud, which she released alongside her band, the Siss Boom Bang. Lang has also championed many causes throughout her distinguished career, supporting the LGBTQ community, animal rights, and Tibet.
