2014 IABC Heritage Region Silver Quill Award Winners Span Michigan to New York to Virginia
PROVIDENCE, R.I., Sept. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Twenty-four award winners will be recognized at the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Heritage Region Conference October 19 – 21 in Providence, RI (http://www.iabcheritageconference.com).
"We are very pleased to recognize these highly accomplished professionals," said Heritage Region Director Forrest Hughes. "The standards and criteria for IABC Silver Quill awards are high, based on time-tested thresholds of performance. The program is not a competition against peers but a quest to meet and exceed professional standards for effective strategic and creative work."
Professionals in business communications, public relations, graphic design, marketing and related fields participate in the program. Management and skill categories involve internal and external communication, media relations, community relations, advertising, branding, crisis communications, publications, social media and more.
See list of winners below.
Entries receiving scores at or above a winning threshold receive Awards of Merit or―at the highest level―Awards of Excellence. Of the 72 entries that were received from across the multi-state Heritage Region, 24 won awards: 15 Awards of Merit and nine Awards of Excellence.
Hughes added, "Receiving a Silver Quill Award is a special honor. But all who enter also benefit from the thoughtful evaluations they receive. Comments can help entrants improve their performance and even fine-tune their entries―possibly for use in IABC's international Gold Quill program."
Entries comprised work samples along with written work plans focused on business need/opportunity, intended audience/stakeholders, goals and objectives, solution overview, implementation and challenges, and measurement/evaluation of outcomes.
Evaluators are experienced business communicators trained in applying the IABC Seven-point Scale of Excellence. Two evaluators scored each entry independently and then reconciled their scores.
Silver Quill has been offered through the IABC Heritage Region for nine years and, prior to that, through smaller IABC districts. The IABC Heritage Region encompasses Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, D.C. and West Virginia.
Winners will be recognized during the opening session of the IABC Heritage Region Conference on Sunday evening, Oct. 19, 2014. On Oct. 20 and 21, conference participants will attend sessions by five keynoters and 21 presenters focused on a variety of professional communication topics and challenges. The conference theme is "Change. Engage. Grow."
