2016 KPMG Women's Leadership Summit: Annika Sorenstam Receives "KPMG Inspire Greatness Award"

Aligned with the KPMG Women's PGA Championship goal of elevating women's leadership in business and golf, the KPMG Inspire Greatness Award honoree is an industry pioneer who has exemplified a personal commitment to the community to empower future generations of women, and who recognizes golf as a relationship development tool.

Annika served as a keynote speaker at yesterday's KPMG Women's Leadership Summit – an event that brought together highly-accomplished leaders in business, politics, sports and media to inspire the next generation of women leaders – held in conjunction with the KPMG Women's PGA Championship this week.

About Annika Sorenstam
Annika is regarded as one of the greatest women golfers, amassing 89 professional victories including 10 major championships over a 15 year career. She is the all-time leading prize winner on the LPGA Tour and the only woman to cross the $20 million mark in career earnings. She remains the sole woman to break 60 in an officially sanctioned round, accomplished at the 2001 Standard Register Ping.

As the first woman to compete professionally against men in 58 years, Annika carried the torch for women's golf when she played on the PGA TOUR's 2003 Bank of America Colonial. This landmark accomplishment raised the profile for female athletes and represented a seminal moment in the efforts of the LPGA Tour to level the playing field.

In 2008, Annika stepped away from competitive golf to pursue a family, build her foundation, and further establish herself as an entrepreneur with the ANNIKA brand of businesses. Through her ANNIKA Foundation she is dedicated to teaching children, particularly girls, the importance of fitness and nutrition, and providing a platform for aspiring junior golfers. The ANNIKA Foundation annually conducts five major golf events for aspiring junior girls including the award-winning AJGA tournament, the ANNIKA Invitational. Since 2014, the Foundation has also annually hosted the ANNIKA Intercollegiate, a college tournament featuring 12 of the top Division I schools.

KPMG Women's PGA Championship
The KPMG Women's PGA Championship is a collaboration between KPMG, the PGA of America, and LPGA. Broadcast in partnership with NBC and Golf Channel, it combines a world-class, annual major golf championship with a women's leadership summit (KPMG Women's Leadership Summit) and an ongoing charitable initiative (KPMG Future Leaders Program) – all focused on the development, advancement and empowerment of women on and off the golf course. The events take place this week at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Washington. The Championship offers a $3.5 million purse, among the highest in women's golf.
