$25k up for grabs at UGC Halo tournament in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, Oct. 27, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Ultimate Gaming Championship (UGC), one of nation's fastest growing eSports promotions, recently announced a Halo 5 tournament that will run from October 28-30 at the Gateway Convention Center in Collinsville. The event will feature a prize pool of more than $25,000 and will consist of 4-on-4 team battles and free-for-all single person play. "We are incredibly excited to bring live eSports to St. Louis," said Matt Jackson, UGC's Chief Executive Officer. "Gamers will have the opportunity to compete against some of the best players in the world," Jackson continued, "and with $25,000 up for grabs, the competition will be fierce."

In the coming weeks, Jackson says the company will be rolling out the UGC Open Series, a schedule of eSports tournaments that includes a Super Smash Bros. competition with a $40,000 prize pool – one of the largest payouts in Super Smash Bros. history. The event is set for the weekend of December 2-4 and will also be held at the Gateway Convention Center. 

Launching these live tournaments is just the first step in a multi-pronged growth strategy for the company.  In July of this year, Edwardsville-based Lineup Media Group acquired a majority stake in the UGC and has begun implementing plans to expand its presence globally. "We have been very aware of the rapid growth in the eSports market for some time," said Jeff Cooper, Chief Executive Officer of Lineup Media Group. "So, when we decided to make a move into the space, it became apparent that – with their deep ties to the gaming community and experience executing successful tournaments – the UGC was the most logical partner for us."
